Lite License - Introduction & Best Practice

Description of IPRally Lite License, the features and limitations of the license type.

Introduction to Lite License

IPRally offers two license types: professional and lite. In this article, you can find information on the features and behaviour of IPRally for lite users, including Best Practice guidance for Free-Text Searching.

In short, lite users can review results and perform simple free-text searches.

The lite license is most beneficial for users who need to review selected patents or gain insights into patents related to specific innovations. The typical lite user is an R&D engineer who reviews patents selected by IP professionals or wants to conduct quick searches around specific innovations.

Features of lite user

This chapter provides an overview of the lite user features. The features are explained in more detail in the following chapters.

Any IPRally user within your organization can share a Search case or a Collection with a lite user. Also, lite users can share searches and collections they have created.

  • They can view a simplified version of the shared Search case or Collection.

  • They can review results and add comments if they have commenting permissions.

  • They can add, edit and create tags if they have tagging permissions

  • They cannot edit the search case or share it further.

  • The document view offers the same features available to professional users.

Searching

  • Lite users can perform simple searches by creating free-text queries.

  • Searches return the top 100 results.

  • Users can share their Search cases with colleagues, granting viewer or commenter permissions.

You can try a few different examples of what kind of search text brings good results:

Collections

  • Lite users can create and manage collections.

  • They can add documents from shared Search cases or their own Search cases to collections.

  • Collections can be shared with colleagues, granting viewer or commenter permissions.

Commenting and tagging

  • Company administrators can grant lite users permission for commenting and tagging.

  • With commenting permissions, users can add comments to documents.

  • With tagging permissions, users can add and remove tags from documents and create new tags.

Sharing

  • Lite users can share a search case or collection they have created.

  • Users can attach a message for the recipient when sharing a search case or collection. This allows users to provide instructions or comments to the receiver.

  • The receiver will receive a notification based on their settings. Link to shared content with the comment will be visible in the notification email and the notification menu.

Acquiring and Allocating a Lite User Licence

How to Acquire a Lite License

Lite Licenses are only available with Enterprise packages. For more information, please contact your IPRally account manager. (Let's check this chapter before release and synch it with the packaging)

How to allocate a Lite License for a user

Company administrators can manage users in the Users & Roles section of the Settings:

1. Navigate to the Users & Roles view.

2. To invite a new user:

  • Select "Invite new user" and choose the Lite License type.

  • The invited user will receive an email with instructions on how to generate a password and activate their account.

3. To modify an existing user's license:

  • Click on the current license type.

  • Select the desired license type from the drop-down menu.

Upgrading a user to professional will make all professional features available, including existing search cases conducted as lite user.
