Can IPRally employees see my Ask AI conversations?

No. As with other parts of the IPRally product, your data is encrypted in storage and transit, and IPRally employees cannot see it.

What data does IPRally collect about my usage of the feature?

We collect statistics about usage of the feature in order to see how much it is used. We know that you asked a question but we do not know what the question was or what patent it was about. We also collect data on the lengths of the questions, lengths of the answers, and the sizes of the related patent documents.

Do you send my questions to a third party?

Yes. The current version of Ask AI is implemented using Google's Gemini model. When you ask a question, we send it to Google's Gemini servers.

We won’t send data to Gemini or any other third party AI model without your permission. In order to use Ask AI, your company’s IPRally admin user must accept the terms of the feature. After the admin user accepts the terms, they can enable the feature for your whole company.

What data do you send to Gemini?

We send your question, the text of the patent, some other public information about the patent (the bibliographic data), and some custom instructions that help Gemini to give better answers.

We do not send the following data: any identifiable information about you or your company (beyond what you write in the question), any of your tags, comments, or other information you’ve entered in IPRally.

How do I know if I can trust Google with our data?

Gemini runs on Google Cloud Platform, which provides enterprise-grade security that meets strict international standards, including ISO 27001 and SOC 2. Your data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, and Google is contractually bound to only process your data according to our instructions. We also use Google Cloud Platform for hosting the rest of the IPRally application.

They can't use your data for their own purposes and must notify us promptly of any security incidents. For more, see: https://cloud.google.com/terms/service-terms

What does Google do with my Ask AI data?

They feed your question to a large language model to generate the answer. They do not use the data to train their models or claim any ownership of the data.

Does Google use my questions to train their AI?

No.

Can employees of IPRally or Google see my questions?

No.

Why do IPRally's Generative AI Terms mention OpenAI and Anthropic? I thought you used a model by Google?

We select different technologies based on what works best for each specific function. Language model technology evolves rapidly, and we want flexibility to switch providers as needed to keep offering you the best possible service.

Currently we use:

  • Google's Gemini model for Ask AI and Smart Filters

  • Anthropic's Claude model for Image Search

We are not currently using any OpenAI models. We have carefully vetted the security procedures of all three providers.
